Chapter 01
New construction, from open framing to trim out
The rough-in is where a house is really wired. With the walls open, circuits can go where the rooms will actually be used rather than where it is easiest to reach, and the cost of getting that right is close to nothing. Once the drywall is up, every one of those decisions becomes expensive to revisit.
That is worth knowing while you still have the choice. The questions that matter at framing stage are dull ones: how many circuits the kitchen really needs, where the outdoor supplies run, whether the garage will one day hold a workshop or a charger, and where the light is going to come from in each room at night.

A remodel quote sits on what is found behind the wall, which is why an honest one starts by looking rather than by quoting. An older Amarillo house that has been added to across decades tends to have circuits carrying rooms they were never sized for, earlier work of varying quality, and at least one surprise.
None of that is alarming and most of it is straightforward once it is visible. It does mean the sequence runs open up, look, then price the real work, rather than the other way round.
Chapter 03
The lighting people actually notice
Under-cabinet runs, deck lighting, landscape and pool lighting. This is the work our customers write about by name, and it is the difference between a house that is adequately lit and one that feels finished.
Most rooms that feel flat have one central fitting and nothing else, so everything is lit from the same place at the same intensity and nothing has any shape. Adding a second and third source at different heights changes a room far more than making the first one brighter.
Pool and landscape work is properly outdoor electrical: rated fittings, protected runs, and ground fault protection near water. That part is not a matter of taste.
Swapping out what is already there
Converting halogen fittings to LED is sometimes a lamp change and often is not. Fittings on a dimmer usually need a dimmer built for LED loads, low-voltage downlights may run through a transformer with a minimum load an LED will not meet, and colour temperature has to be chosen deliberately rather than picked up in whatever the shop had.
The job is matching the fitting to the wiring that is already there. One of the reviews we get asked about most is exactly this: a kitchen where the right replacements had to be hunted down rather than the nearest ones fitted, and where the owners wanted to understand how it had all been wired in the first place.
Safety and efficiency, checked rather than assumed
Safety and energy-efficiency wiring is on our service list, and in practice it means looking at the things a house stops showing you: whether breakers match the conductors behind them, whether protection is present where it should be, whether anything in the panel is running warm, and whether earlier additions were done well.
If your breaker keeps tripping, that is the house telling you something rather than a nuisance to reset. It is worth a phone call, and if anything is warm, scorched or smells of burning it is worth one now.
