Repairs, day or night

Electrical service calls, and what to do in the first five minutes

General repairs for homes, businesses and farms across Amarillo and the Panhandle, including generator repair. Emergency service 24 hours a day.

Chapter 01

What to do before anyone gets there

If you know which circuit is involved, switch that breaker off and leave it off. Do not keep resetting it to see what happens. If you do not know which one it is and something is arcing, smoking or burning, switch off the main and deal with the dark. Light is a smaller problem than fire.

If water has reached wiring, a fitting or the panel, isolate before anyone goes near it rather than after. Do not touch anyone who is in contact with a live source, because you become the second casualty. Do not open a panel cover, and do not put water on an electrical fire.

Then tell everyone in the building that it is off and why, so that nobody helpfully switches it back on.

Telling an emergency from a repair that can wait

Not everything that goes wrong at ten at night has to be fixed at ten at night, and knowing the difference saves everybody trouble. Treat as an emergency: any smell of burning, any smoke, any scorch mark, buzzing or crackling or visible arcing, anything electrical that is hot to the touch, water reaching wiring or the panel, and anyone who has taken a shock however brief.

A single dead outlet, one light that has stopped working, or a breaker that tripped once and has held ever since will keep until morning. It is entirely reasonable to leave it off and call during office hours. If you are genuinely unsure which it is, call and describe it. That is a fair question to ask and it costs nothing.

Chapter 03

What we can tell from the phone call

The useful details are short. What happened and when, what you have already switched off, whether there is any smell or heat, whether water is involved, whether the whole property or one area is affected, and whether the neighbours have a problem too, which separates a supply fault from yours.

Say the address plainly, and say first if anyone was hurt. Everything else can follow. That handful of facts changes what comes off the truck, and it is why the call is worth making rather than sending a message and waiting.

One breaker, or the whole panel

A repair diagnosis narrows down in a fairly predictable order. Is the fault in something plugged in, in a device or fitting, in the circuit, or in the panel and the supply. Most jobs stop at the first or second of those, and a fair number of the rest turn out to be a circuit now carrying rooms it was never sized for, which is a real fix rather than a reset.

We handle general repairs across residential, commercial and agricultural property, and generator repair as part of the same service. If a fault has produced heat once, it is worth leaving that circuit off until it has been looked at, even if everything seems calm again.

Around the clock, and the licence on the door

Emergency service is available 24 hours a day on (806) 376-9950. No response-time figure is claimed anywhere on this site, because none is published and inventing one would be worth exactly nothing to you at two in the morning.

What is published is the licence. Texas Electrical Contractor licence TECL# 18914 is printed on the trucks, and it is the number you can check. The office runs Monday to Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, for everything that is not an emergency.
